Design Engineer (Reliability & Maintainability)
My client based near Taunton requires a Reliability & Maintainability Design Engineer to join their Engineering and Manufacturing outfit.
MAIN PURPOSES OF THE JOB:
To influence design and development of existing and future platforms for Reliability and
Maintainability, to conduct R&M analysis, tests and trials using recognised techniques, and
provide documentary evidence of likely and proven R&M performance (in accordance with
Defence Standards). A fully integrated member of the Design Team, interfacing with Design,
Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Trials and Safety functions.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
h Responsible for all R&M analysis of company designs and products.
- To influence designs for R&M.
- To provide evidence in support of claims of R&M performance through presentation of
analysis, models and reports (in accordance with Def Stan 00-40 and 00-42).
- Investigate failures or potential failures for design and development purposes.
- Continuous improvement of product R&M performance and maintenance optimisation.
- Support the Engineering Manager and Project Managers in engineering activity.
- Support to the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Manager enabling flow through of R&M
analysis into specification, design, procurement and fielding of the Support Solution.
- Support the Safety and Environment work-stream with analysis of probability and
consequence of equipment failures.
- Support to the Trials Manager in running of R&M Tests and Trials, collection of R&M
performance data, sentencing of failures at Incident Sentencing Committee and
identification of corrective action.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- To represent the Company to customers, suppliers and other organisations.
- To maintain awareness of relevant new technology, and apply it within the company as appropriate.
- To be aware of the current procedures and ensure that they are correct and accurately
reflected in the Procedures Manual.
- To participate in the company's Staff Appraisal process.
- To suggest improvements to any working practices.
- To keep all administrative tasks up to date and all associated paperwork in a tidy and easily
identifiable manner.
- To maintain an awareness and observation of Fire, Security, and Health and Safety
Regulations.
- To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job.

Internal Customers: Design, ILS, Projects, Production and Trials.
Internal Suppliers: Design, Trials.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
(ie minimum educational level and experience to fill the job effectively)
- Engineering qualifications to degree level or similar.
- Professional / Chartered Engineer status, or potential to achieve.
- Reliability and Maintainability qualifications.
- Good knowledge of Automotive Engineering and systems.
- Working knowledge of MOD acquisition and Defence Standards (00-40 and 00-42).
- Working knowledge of R&M modelling software and MS Office applications.
- Good communication and resource management skills.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- The R&M Engineer must be able to work with minimum of supervision and communicate
with all levels of staff and management.
- The R&M Engineer must be aware of the time pressures on other staff, and be able to
effectively deal with their requests, while ensuring that the appropriate documentation is
completed in a timely manner.
- The R&M Engineer must be able to demonstrate high levels of professional integrity.
Salary negotiable to £35,000 per annum + benefits
